Business student says quiet city is conducive to study
Xiaojing Zhang says the best part of her decision to pursue university studies in Windsor is the city’s peaceful atmosphere.
“If you like quiet, come to Windsor,” says Zhang, who came to the city in September 2009 from her native China and is now completing her first year at the Odette School of Business.
She says that she enjoys time in the Leddy Library, with its collection of more than 3 million items.
“Before exams, I always spend lots of time there, sitting at a table studying together with my friends,” Zhang says. “Back I China, we have mostly individual work. I like the teamwork here; we really help each other.”
“I want to communicate with others, I don’t want to be lonely,” says Zhang. “I would advise anyone coming here that if you live in residence, knock on the door of your neighbours and say hello.”
The ELIP program helped her to make new friends through social activities like a laser tag tournament.
“We had a great time,” she says. “It’s only an hour or so to play, but by the end of it, you’re friends!”
She advises newcomers never to leave tasks until the last minute.
“Sometimes, the homework at ELIP is relatively easy,” says Zhang. “However, the work in the university is not as easy. To take every task as an important one would help a person to be successful.”
