Welcome to the Humanities Research GroupThe Humanities Research Group seeks to generate, enliven, and disseminate research, scholarship, and creative activity in the arts, human sciences, and related disciplines by both new and established scholars; to support and promote interdisciplinary study in the human sciences; to create and sustain a culture of inquiry that transcends disciplinary and departmental boundaries by fostering collegial dialogue, informed debate, and the pursuit of new areas of inquiry; and to communicate with the university and the public in ways that enhance the reputation of the arts, human sciences, and the university.
In fulfilling these aims, the Humanities Research Group acts as a liaison among faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, the campus community, and the public. It maintains a number of programs — lecture series, colloquia,
fellowships — which bring scholars to campus and assist local faculty in their scholarly and creative inquiry.
Upcoming Events 2009-2010 Humanities Fellows Once again, the Humanities Research Group brings the world to Windsor: our rich programme of lectures, visiting speakers, student colloquia, and a conference concerning the future of the humanities promises an engaging 2010 winter semester. With the Martin Wesley Lecture Series, we continue to highlight local and emerging scholars, and with the distinguished speakers series we welcome the director of the National Humanities Centre in the US, Geoffrey Galt Harpham. Our fifth annual, and always very popular, military studies conference welcomes Terry Copp from Wilfred Laurier University for a keynote talk on the role of the Essex Scottish late in world war two. And in two talks this term, the HRG collaborates with Steven Palmer, History, the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Windsor, and others for the MAASH lectures in medical arts, social sciences, and the humanities. All in all, an exciting term, and one that,I hope, sees your continued involvement in, and support of, the HRG.
Happy year new, Stephen Pender, Director
