English Placement Test
Some courses require that a Placement Test be taken to determine the proper class for you. Tests are scheduled during the week prior to the start of each session. Please make an appointment to schedule your placement test by calling 519-253-3000 Ext: 3442 or 7039.
CULTURE, CONVERSATION AND IDIOMS ELICI 0909DATES: Thursdays & Saturdays, September 24 - October 17, 2009TIMES: Thursdays - 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. Saturdays - 9:00 A.M - 12:00 P.M.COST: $225.00A four week (4) week language based program designed to assist the newcomer to better adjust to their surroundings. Focus is on the conversational skills (speaking and listening). Veering from the traditional “textbook” approach, sessions are based on the language and culture used in the every day life of Canadians; type of vocabulary/language; when to use it, and what it means/represents. Sessions take place in the classroom and onsite at various locations within walking range of the college.
COMMUNICATING IN CANADA ELICC 0909 DATES & TIMES: Arranged on an individual basis with Instructor
A program designed to assist professionals, spouses, students and community members become more effective in their conversational skills; ability to understand and navigate the cultural mores; assist with accent reduction; build and strengthen writing and grammatical skills; gain in-depth “lifeskills” knowledge (banking, grocery, shopping etc.) and much more. Tailored to meet individual needs, clients meet with the instructor on an individual basis to determine their specific needs and determine the course structure and duration of their customized program.
The cost will be determined by the client’s specific goals, and duration and frequency of sessions. Please contact Iona College’s Program Director for more detailed information.
Instructor: Jesse Chenier, obtained his TESL from Oxford Seminars. Currently completing his degree at the University of Windsor in English Literature, Creative Writing & Drama, he also serves as a Board Member of the English Undergrad Student Association and a representative for Club Soda, the Drama Club. Jesse has extensive experience tutoring elementary, high school, and ESL students as well as peer editing.

An administration fee of $25.00 is charged in the event that the student cancels one week prior to the start of classes. A prorated refund will be granted up to three (3) weeks after the start of the session. Reduced rates are available for groups of three (3) or more students from the same company/organization.
