The Iona College Problem Gambling Institute offers the unique international atmosphere of Windsor and Detroit through Canadian and American Instructors. Students are challenged by a broader understanding of the issues related to compulsive gambling and by the variety of theories, practices, and models used to evaluate and address it. All Iona College Instuctors are properly certified and experienced compulsive gambling counsellors.
Donna Keegan, B.A., CPGC
Donna Keegan has an extensive background in the area of Mental Health, and has been working in the field since 1986. She has always had an interest in working with special populations, and has worked in various capacities, including working with the mentally ill, the elderly, and children with special needs.
Ms. Keegan obtained her B.A. in Psychology, from the University of Windsor in 1992, and recently became certified under the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board. She is currently working full time as a Gambling Counsellor. Donna has been an employee of Windsor Regional Hospital for 8 years, the last 2 in the Problem Gambling program.
Donna Keegan provides both residential and outpatient services, and is responsible for developing treatment and aftercare programs for problem gambling clients as well as their family members. Ms. Keegan provides treatment on an individual basis as well as in a group setting. Donna often facilitates the Family Workshop for problem gamblers and their family members.
Charlie Moscatello, CPGC
Charlie Moscatello is a graduate of the University of Windsor with a B.A in Psychology. He is a Certified Problem Gambling Counsellor and also holds a diploma in Chemical Dependency Counselling. He supervised and gathered data for the University of Windsor’s Problem Gambling Research Team over a three (3) year period. Moscatello is currently a Counsellor at the Problem Gambling Services Program at the Windsor Western Campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor, Ontario, a position that he has held for the past five (5) years. His primary responsibilities are the treatment of problem gamblers and their family members and the development and implementation of the residential treatment program for problem gamblers at Windsor Regional Hospital. Mr. Moscatello is also very involved in organizing Awareness and Prevention initiatives in the community.
Patrick Perrin, CPGC
Patrick Perrin is a Certified Problem Gambling Counselor with the Problem Gambling Services Program at the Windsor Western Campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor, Ontario. He has been involved in the treatment of both chemical dependency and problem gambling as well as the treatment of family members. His experience also includes providing these treatments at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and the Westover Treatment Centre, Thamesville, Ontario. Mr. Perrin has been an adult educator at the St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario where he taught Addiction and Counseling Skills. Previously he was a facilitator at the Gambling Addiction Studies Program at Iona College affiliated with the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario. For the past twenty years, Mr. Perrin has been involved in the treatment of addiction and it’s effects He has also provided the promotion of community awareness and prevention of problem gambling through the education of E.A.P. representatives of local industries, and high school educators in the Chatham-Kent and Windsor areas.
Michelle Timmins, MSW, BSW, CPGC, CGC
Michelle Timmins obtained her BSW from the University of Windsor in 1987. She began working in the alcohol and drug field in 1992 and was introduced to the field of gambling addiction while sitting on a United Way committee put forth to study the possible social and community implications of casino gambling on Windsor Essex County in 1993. Michelle’s interest in the field of gambling addiction led her to take one of the initial courses offered by Iona College in 1993/4 and she became a Certified Gambling Counsellor in 1994. Michelle started the first outpatient gambling treatment group in Oct. 1995 while working part time for the Canadian Foundation on Compulsive Gambling.
In 1997, Michelle became the first full time gambling counselor hired at Problem Gambling Services Program at the Windsor Western Campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor, Ontario. She is responsible for developing the treatment, aftercare and outpatient programs for those experiencing problems with their gambling as well as their family members. At present she works with clients in both inpatient and outpatient treatment components.
Michelle was the first gambling counselor to become certified under the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board in August 2002 and in 2003 she completed her MSW at Wayne State University. Michelle has presented numerous workshops on gambling addiction and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the field of gambling addiction over her 11 years in the field.
